It can lead to a wide spectrum of illnesses, ranging from mild upper respiratory tract infections to severe pneumonia requiring intensive care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>RSV is transmitted through coughing and sneezing and can survive on hard surfaces for several hours. It can remain active on hands for up to 12 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most hospitalizations due to RSV occur in full-term, otherwise healthy infants. The incubation period ranges from 4 to 6 days, and the contagious period lasts approximately 5 to 6 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>RSV is the most common cause of lower respiratory tract infections in infants and young children. In children under 1 year of age, it accounts for more than 80% of cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By the age of 2, nearly all children (about 90%) have been infected with RSV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reinfection is possible; however, the severity of the disease generally decreases with age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The RSV season typically lasts from October through the end of March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Household transmission is common.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One-third of deaths due to lower respiratory tract infections in infants under 1 year of age are associated with RSV infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"how-can-we-protect-against-rsv\"><\/span>How can we protect against RSV?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Passive immunization<\/strong> (during pregnancy)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Active immunization<\/strong> (for the infant)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Immunization can be provided with the RSV monoclonal antibody <strong>Nirsevimab (Beyfortus)<\/strong>, which has been implemented in our country starting from October 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The vaccine approved for use during pregnancy, <strong>Abrysvo<\/strong>, can be administered between <strong>32 and 36 weeks of gestation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n    <div class=\"xs_social_share_widget xs_share_url after_content \t\tmain_content  wslu-style-1 wslu-share-box-shaped wslu-fill-colored wslu-none wslu-share-horizontal wslu-theme-font-no wslu-main_content\">\n\n\t\t\n        <ul>\n\t\t\t        <\/ul>\n    <\/div> \n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RSV INFECTION RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) is an RNA virus that attaches to the respiratory epithelium, enters the cells, and causes disease.
